In 2014 and 2015 Perth Advocates for the Earth Inc planted approximately 3,000 species that are the food source and shelter for the endangered Black Cockatoo. The area we chose - Wedgetail Reserve in Parkerville WA - was previously used for cattle grazing which had done immeasurable damage to the soil. The area is now classified a Reserve and is protected from development. In 2007 the Jane Brook Catchment Group began their rehabilitation of the area and their hard work has shown incredible improvements to the soil and the creek line. Because of their rehabilitation efforts for the creek line, the creek that was once decimated is now reestablished and flows again (during the winter months). PAFTE Inc chose to assist the Jane Brook Catchment Group as they are a hardworking local group doing something beneficial for the environment and the endangered Black Cockatoos. We are committed to purchasing plant species every year for Wedgetail Reserve until it is fully rehabilitated. We are very grateful that we had assistance from the Jane Brook Catchment Group (http://janebrookcg.com.au/); volunteers provided by Conservation Volunteers Australia (Fremantle); and plants sourced from Mundaring Nursery. We have committed to planting species of plants for the Black Cockatoos and other native wildlife into the future.

Dawn Lowe from Animals Angels Australia, talks at the Perth Advocates for the Earth Inc fundraising and educational forum titled, "Can We Make A Difference?" on the 24th August 2013.

100% of funds raised ($6,150) were donated to the Barristers Animal Welfare Panel to help them continue their work in improving animal welfare legislation in Australia and beyond.

Animals Angels is an international organisation committed to the improvement and advancement of animal welfare, with the focus on improving conditions in the transportation and handling of animals used in farming.

We work primarily in the field, visiting saleyards throughout Australia as well as attending ports from where live animals are exported on ships to overseas destinations for slaughter. Western Australia presents huge challenges in the matter of distances between farm and saleyard and Fremantle is the largest live export port for Australian sheep. Although there is legislation, Regulations and Codes of Practise for animal welfare, for it to be effective, there must be consistent monitoring of industry compliance. Animals Angels work closely and collaboratively with government and industry to bring about the best animal welfare outcomes.

With a thorough understanding of the legislation and codes and how the industry works, we are able to accurately monitor, record, report and substantiate breaches and events of non-compliance in saleyards, transport and portside in order to improve industry standards and correct improper procedures.

Katrina Love (Stop Live Export Co-ordinator and AJP lead candidate in the 2013 election for the senate) talks at the Perth Advocates for the Earth Inc fundraising and educational forum titled, "Can We Make A Difference?" on the 24th August 2013.

100% of funds raised ($6,150) were donated to the Barristers Animal Welfare Panel to help them continue their work in improving animal welfare legislation in Australia and beyond. Katrina V Love has been campaigning against live exports for nearly ten years and was a committee member of Stop Live Exports for 18 months before taking on the role of Coordinator last year.

Katrina is also the Western Australian representative on the Animals Australia Executive and the Animal Justice Party Senate candidate for Western Australia in this year's Federal election.

Katrina's area of expertise is live animal exports, but she is passionate and vocal about all issues and injustices that affect the non-human inhabitants of this planet "I believe we owe it to those we share this planet with, to treat them with the respect, dignity and consideration we would have shown to us; we are a different species, not different matter.

For too long, the unconscionable, profit-driven abuse of other animals has worsened and is now spiraling out of control with a hungry, animal-protein-dependant world to feed, into a full blown epidemic of cruelty, callousness or worse, indifference. "

  • Dingo Daz's Presentation
by Perth Advocates for the Earth Inc on October 15, 2013 at 5:46 AM

Darren Griffiths (president of the WA Dingo Association) talks at the Perth Advocates for the Earth Inc fundraising and educational forum titled, "Can We Make A Difference?" on the 24th August 2013.

100% of funds raised ($6,150) were donated to the Barristers Animal Welfare Panel to help them continue their work in improving animal welfare legislation in Australia and beyond.

The dedicated Darren (better known as DingoDaz) along with the supportive team at the WA Dingo Association Incorporated work very hard to educate the public about this much maligned native Australian Wolf, the living ancestor of all domestic dog species. "Evolving and adapting in the Australian environment for 18,000 - 28,000 years the Dingo fills the role of ecological stabilizer. It has been proven where stable Dingo packs live, there is greater bio-diversity. Where they are absent, introduced predators and other invasive species decimate the native flora and fauna.

Currently being studied by scientists at the USA's Harvard University they are thought to be as intelligent as some higher order primates. In their native country official policy in many states classify them as vermin to be wiped out at every opportunity, yet some have listed them as a vulnerable native species protected by law. Without further research and awareness, the Dingo will go the way of the Thylacine.

The WA Dingo Association gives regular talks & presentations to community groups in WA. For further information or to book a presentation please email us at info@wadingo.com " ~ WADA President Darren Griffiths.

Perth Advocates for the Earth Inc were a recipient of a $4,000 2012 Community Grant from Australian Ethical Investment.

    http://www.australianethical.com.au/

Why it is so important for us to plant the food source and shelter for native birds and other species:

    http://www.dec.wa.gov.au/management-and-protection/plants/native-vegetation.html

"Australia is one of the world's seventeen centres of 'mega-diversity' of plants and animals. The south west of Western Australia is known as one of the world's thirty four biodiversity "hotspots" with some of the richest and most threatened reservoirs of plant and animal life on earth. In some areas of the state, such as the Avon-Wheatbelt bio-region, ninety three percent of native vegetation has already been cleared.

Clearing and consequential salinity are having a devastating effect on biodiversity through the direct loss of plant species, and the associated loss of mammals, birds and other animals which depend upon areas of bush for food and shelter." Name of Project: Tree Planting for Black Cockatoos Objectives of Project:

    1. Rehabilitation of a section of a 100 acre property with approx. 1,000 suitable plants for Black Cockatoos in the South West of WA (Boyup Brook situated on the Blackwood River).

    2. Provide food source and shelter for Black Cockatoos

    3. Rehabilitate land and potentially reduce salinity

    4. Encourage dialogue and positive involvement by the local community and the view that others in the area might follow suit.
