In 2014 and 2015 Perth Advocates for the Earth Inc planted approximately 3,000 species that are the food source and shelter for the endangered Black Cockatoo. The area we chose - Wedgetail Reserve in Parkerville WA - was previously used for cattle grazing which had done immeasurable damage to the soil. The area is now classified a Reserve and is protected from development. In 2007 the Jane Brook Catchment Group began their rehabilitation of the area and their hard work has shown incredible improvements to the soil and the creek line. Because of their rehabilitation efforts for the creek line, the creek that was once decimated is now reestablished and flows again (during the winter months). PAFTE Inc chose to assist the Jane Brook Catchment Group as they are a hardworking local group doing something beneficial for the environment and the endangered Black Cockatoos. We are committed to purchasing plant species every year for Wedgetail Reserve until it is fully rehabilitated. We are very grateful that we had assistance from the Jane Brook Catchment Group (http://janebrookcg.com.au/); volunteers provided by Conservation Volunteers Australia (Fremantle); and plants sourced from Mundaring Nursery. We have committed to planting species of plants for the Black Cockatoos and other native wildlife into the future.
